Antarktika -Entfremdung
Ausstellung im MQ
„Bezahlen Sie soviel Sie wollen”, sagt der junge Mann an der Kassa und deutet auf einen “pay as you wish” flyer.
„Nein, gratis geht nicht”, fügt er noch hinzu, was mich leicht konfus zurücklässt. Ich schaue nach, was der reguläre Eintrittspreis für mich wäre, gebe ihm das Geld und gehe in die Ausstellung.
Die Ausstellung selber ist grosszügig präsentiert und lässt Raum zum Schauen. Alles, was Geräusche macht wird etwas abseits, hinter Trennwänden, gezeigt, was dem Ausstellungsraum eine angenehme Ruhe verleiht.
Die Filme selber lassen mich recht ratlos zurück, was aber durchaus daran gelegen sein kann, dass meine Verweildauer sehr begrenzt war.
Ansonsten gibt es viel “staged photography” und etliches an “snapshots” von der Strasse. Manches wirkt recht klischeehaft, regt aber vielleicht gerade deswegen zum Nachdenken an. Ob nämlich das, was da gezeigt wird, wirklich „Entfremdung” darstellt oder doch bloss das Klischee von dem, was wir unter „Entfremdung” verstehen.

The young man at the ticket counter points to a flyer, saying ”pay as you wish”, which leaves me slightly confused. Asking him whether I could see the show for free, he answers: “No, paying nothing is not an option”.
After looking at the regular price list displayed at the counter, I payed the fee for seniors and went in.
ANTARCTICA – AN EXHIBITION ABOUT ALIENATION
MQ Vienna
”Antarctica” was used as a synonym by the film director Michelangelo Antonioni in the 60s for a film he had in mind.
Staged photography and snapshots of “real life” are displayed in the spacious exhibition hall. It is very quiet, as films about “alienation” are shown in niches, separated from the exhibition hall by panels.
Staged photography, mixed with snapshots from public spaces catch my eye. I ask myself whether the photographs really portray „alienation” or only the cliche of what we think alienation looks like.
