Cafe Museum, a renowned old coffee house in the inner district of Vienna, is now offering free Covid tests in the afternoons. Like all restaurants, this coffee house is closed due to the 3rd lockdown. But customers can still come in for a coffee to go, and now get tested as well, because one of the waiters also works as a paramedic.
In front of the coffee house a colorfully painted grand piano invites passers-by to “entertain” themselves and others.
Hotel Sacher is probably the most famous and distinguished hotel in Vienna. Located behind the state opera, it is closed now as well.
“Sacher to go”, which means “coffee to go“ in this case, is all the hotel can offer during this time of the pandemic. And yet, it IS a beautiful place and offers a glimmer of hope, as it seems to whisper: We are prepared to reopen again soon to welcome our guests.
Musikverein, the world – famous concert hall on the other side of the road has already been closed for a long time. A single poster on a wall outside says: “Music will be back soon.” This single poster illustrates best the disastrous impact of the pandemic on all cultural branches. It is all that is left on this wall, which is usually full of announcements of concerts of all kinds.
