Playing with sunlight
Theseus temple, a Greek – styled building inside the Volksgarten, is presenting an installation by Susanna Fritscher, an Austrian artist.
Rails in shapes of an ancient pattern are attached to the ceiling and the floor. Thin silicon threads, fixed on the rails, reflect the sunlight coming through the window on the ceiling.
The vertical alignment of the installation makes the rather small room appear almost like a Gothic style cathedral. Depending on the sunlight, of course.
The visitor is guided on a certain path, following the pattern in which the rails are fixed on the floor.
Visiting this installation, a previous exhibit at the Temple crossed my mind. Back in 2013, Richard Wright’s installation played with sunlight too, although in a very different way.
The sunlight, coming in through either the window on the ceiling or the open door, revealed fascinating patterns on the walls, which were not visible without sunlight.
Susanna Fritscher’s installation created a fascinating new surrounding, depending on the direction and amount of sunlight coming in; whereas, Richard Wright’s work of art added fascinating new dimensions to the room itself and let the visitor move around freely.
